Dining Room Design in Colorado and Maui

Whether it is a weeknight dinner for four or a holiday table for fourteen, we design dining rooms around how you host, with the table, seating, lighting and storage chosen to make gathering effortless.

The Approach

Flexible seating for family meals, and every meal after

Dining room design at Studio Lea is a complete, start-to-finish service covering layout and seating capacity, table and chair selection, custom dining tables and banquettes, statement lighting, built-in storage and bar millwork, finishes and styling, delivered as detailed drawings and managed through procurement and installation for homes in Colorado, Maui and nationwide.

We begin with how you host. Is dinner a nightly ritual or a weekend event? How many people do you seat most nights, and how many on the nights that matter most? Where do the serving pieces, linens and the good glasses actually live? From your must-haves to your nice-to-haves, we discuss those needs in depth before a single piece is chosen.

Each answer shapes the plan. Table size and shape, clearances for pulling out chairs, the relationship to the kitchen and the lighting overhead are resolved first, so the furnishings and finishes can do what they should: make the room feel generous, warm and unmistakably yours.

Since 2010, Studio Lea has designed dining rooms and breakfast nooks for mountain homes in Colorado, historic renovations in Denver and open-air retreats on Maui. Every one is drawn, specified and managed in-house by our team, working as your partner alongside your builder and every vendor involved.

What Dining Room Design Includes

What dining room design means, line by line

01

Layout and Seating Capacity

Table placement, chair clearances, circulation and the connection to the kitchen resolved in plan, so the room seats your everyday and your holidays with equal ease.

02

Tables, Chairs and Banquettes

Dining tables, chairs and built-in banquettes sourced across trusted vendors or designed in-house, with proportions, finishes and comfort tested for long dinners.

03

Statement Lighting

A sculptural fixture over the table for that unexpected wow factor, balanced with dimmable ambient and accent light so the room shifts from breakfast to candlelight.

04

Built-In Storage and Bar Millwork

Sideboards, china storage, bar cabinetry and beverage centers designed in-house and coordinated with your cabinetmaker, so hosting is effortless.

05

Finishes, Rugs and Window Treatments

Wall finishes, flooring, rugs and window treatments layered in for warmth and texture, chosen to handle spills, chairs and real life.

06

Tabletop, Art and Styling

Art, mirrors, tabletop and accessories curated and installed as the final layer, with procurement, inspections and delivery managed so the room comes together as a whole.

The Process

Our design and project management process

01

Discovery and Visioning

We get to know how you cook, host and celebrate, walk the existing room or the plans together, and define scope, budget and timeline with clarity from the start.

02

Concept Development

Furniture plans, material direction and a lighting strategy are presented, discussed and refined with you before detailed design begins.

03

Design and Specification

Millwork elevations, lighting plans, furniture specifications and finish schedules are drawn to a level your builder and vendors can price with confidence.

04

Implementation and Styling

We act as the central hub for trades and vendors, manage procurement and delivery, and finish with the tabletop, art and accessories that make the room yours.

Designed for Where You Live

Two studios, two climates, one thoughtful approach

Denver and the Colorado Mountains

Long winters and a full house after a day on the slopes make the dining room a place to linger. We select durable tables and easy-care upholstery, and plan lighting that glows through early dark evenings.

  • Tables and finishes that shrug off mountain wear
  • Easy-care upholstery for a full house
  • Warm, dimmable lighting for long winter dinners

Kihei, Maui and the Islands

Salt-laden air, humidity and lanai living call for a different set of choices. We select humidity-stable woods, fade-resistant fabrics and layouts that open naturally to outdoor dining.

  • Humidity-stable woods and finishes
  • Fade-resistant, breathable seating
  • Indoor-outdoor flow to the lanai table

Questions

Questions we hear often

Do you design dining rooms as a standalone project?
Yes. Dining room design is available on its own, as a furnishings refresh, or as part of a full-service renovation or new build, and it pairs naturally with our kitchen design service.
Can you design a custom dining table?
Yes. We design custom furniture and millwork in-house, including dining tables, banquettes and built-in storage, and coordinate fabrication with trusted artisans.
How long does a dining room design take?
Design typically runs six to ten weeks depending on scope. Custom tables and upholstered seating carry lead times of several months, which we plan into the schedule from the first meeting.
Do you handle ordering and delivery?
We do. We manage procurement, inspections and delivery timelines across all vendors, so your room arrives as a whole rather than one box at a time.
Do you take on projects outside Colorado and Hawaii?
Yes. We serve interior design clients nationwide, with our Denver and Kihei studios serving as home bases for site visits and installations.
