Services/Design by Room

Kitchen Design in Colorado and Maui

The kitchen is where daily life actually happens. We design it around how you cook, gather and move, with cabinetry, stone, lighting and appliances chosen to support your rituals, so the room feels like you and works like it was always meant to.

The Approach

Function drives form, and the kitchen proves it

Kitchen design at Studio Lea is a complete, start-to-finish service covering layout, custom cabinetry, appliance selection, finishes, lighting and plumbing, delivered as detailed construction documents and managed through installation for homes in Colorado, Maui and nationwide.

We begin with empathy and a lot of listening. How do you move through your kitchen? Where does the coffee live, how many people cook at once, where do the groceries land, and who sits at the island while dinner comes together? From your must-haves to your nice-to-haves, we discuss those needs in depth before a single finish is chosen.

Each insight shapes the plan. Work zones, sightlines, storage and clearances are resolved first, so that the cabinetry, stone and lighting can do what they should: make a thoughtfully planned space feel effortless, warm and unmistakably yours. Nothing is chosen just to check a box.

Since 2010, Studio Lea has designed kitchens for mountain homes outside Denver, Tudor renovations in the city and open-air retreats on Maui. Every one is drawn, specified and managed in-house by our team, working as your partner alongside your builder and cabinetmaker at every step.

What Kitchen Design Includes

What kitchen design means, line by line

01

Space Planning and Layout

Work zones, island proportions, circulation and clearances resolved in plan before finishes are discussed. When the walls are still negotiable, we explore several layouts with you and leave no stone unturned.

02

Custom Cabinetry and Millwork

Cabinet elevations, door profiles, interior fittings and integrated panels designed in-house and coordinated directly with your cabinetmaker, from the toe kick to the crown.

03

Appliance Selection

Ranges, refrigeration, ventilation and specialty appliances chosen for how you actually cook, then dimensioned into the drawings so there are no surprises on install day.

04

Stone, Tile and Finishes

Countertops, backsplash, flooring and hardware layered in for warmth, contrast and texture where it counts. We view slabs with you and detail every edge, seam and transition.

05

Lighting and Plumbing

A layered lighting plan that blends task and ambient light with a sculptural fixture or two for that unexpected wow factor, alongside timeless, durable plumbing that stands the test of time.

06

Construction Documents and Management

Designer-led drawings your builder can price and build from, followed by site visits, vendor coordination and procurement, so you can focus on the vision while we manage the details.

The Process

Our design and project management process

01

Discovery and Visioning

We get to know how you cook, host and live, walk the existing space or the plans together, and define scope, budget and timeline with clarity from the start.

02

Concept Development

Layout studies, material direction and an appliance strategy are presented, discussed and refined with you before detailed design begins.

03

Design and Specification

Cabinet elevations, lighting plans, plumbing schedules and finish specifications are drawn to a level your builder can price with confidence, solving problems on paper before they become expensive mistakes.

04

Implementation and Styling

We act as the central hub for trades and vendors, review the work on site, and finish with the final layer of styling that makes the room yours.

Designed for Where You Live

Two studios, two climates, one thoughtful approach

Denver and the Colorado Mountains

Dry air, altitude and snow-packed months shape what lasts here. We specify wood species and finishes that hold their form, plan for generous pantry storage and design kitchens that stay warm and welcoming all winter long.

  • Stable hardwoods and engineered panels for low humidity
  • Ventilation planned for high-altitude cooking
  • Storage sized for a well-stocked mountain household

Kihei, Maui and the Islands

Salt-laden air, humidity and indoor-outdoor living call for a different set of choices. We select corrosion-resistant hardware, humidity-friendly cabinetry and surfaces that welcome sand, sun and open lanai doors.

  • Corrosion-resistant hardware and fixtures
  • Cabinetry and finishes rated for tropical humidity
  • Layouts that open naturally to outdoor dining

Questions

Questions we hear often

Do you design kitchens as a standalone project?
Yes. Kitchen design is available on its own or as part of a full-service renovation or new build. Many clients begin with the kitchen and expand the scope once they experience how collaborative the process is.
Do you work with my builder or cabinetmaker?
Absolutely. Our drawings are written to communicate clearly with your build team, and we coordinate directly with contractors, cabinet shops and stone fabricators throughout the project. If you need referrals, we work with trusted partners in both Colorado and Maui.
How long does a kitchen design take?
Design and documentation typically run eight to twelve weeks depending on scope. Custom cabinetry and appliances carry their own lead times, which we plan into the schedule from the first meeting.
Can you help with appliance selection alone?
Appliance selection is included in every kitchen design and is also available through our consultation service if you are working with your own designer or builder.
Do you take on projects outside Colorado and Hawaii?
Yes. We serve interior design clients nationwide, with our Denver and Kihei studios serving as home bases for site visits and installations.
